Animal Protection Plan

New York City must do better when it comes to protecting its animals—both pets and wildlife. My administration will implement strong policies to ensure humane treatment, expand services, and hold abusers accountable.

Key Policies:

Stronger Enforcement Against Animal Cruelty – Strengthen anti-cruelty laws, increase penalties for abusers, and ensure the NYPD and ACC have the resources to properly investigate and prosecute animal neglect and abuse cases.

Improve NYC Animal Shelters & Adoption Services – Reform and expand the Animal Care Centers (ACC), eliminate kill shelters, and provide more funding for no-kill rescues and foster programs.

Expand Access to Affordable Vet Care – Establish low-cost and free veterinary clinics in underserved communities so no pet suffers due to financial hardship.

Protect NYC Wildlife – Enforce humane urban wildlife management, ban inhumane trapping and poisoning, and ensure green spaces are safe for animals.

End Horse Carriage Exploitation – Transition the NYC carriage horse industry to electric carriages, ensuring workers are protected while ending the abuse of horses forced to navigate dangerous city streets.

Stronger Regulations on Puppy Mills & Pet Stores – Ban the sale of commercially bred dogs, cats, and rabbits in pet stores and promote adoption from shelters and rescues.

Support for Animal Rescue Organizations – Provide grants and city partnerships with rescues and non-profits working to save and rehabilitate animals.

NYC Deserves Better—So Do Our Animals

New Yorkers love their pets, and they deserve a mayor who will fight for them. Under my leadership, NYC will be a national leader in humane policies.

They’ve Failed You. I Won’t. Time for Independent Leadership!

NYC’s Labor Unions

New York City thrives because of its hardworking union members. From first responders to transit workers, teachers to sanitation crews, unions keep this city running—but for too long, politicians have taken them for granted. As mayor, I will fight to protect labor rights, secure stronger contracts, and ensure every union worker is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Key Unions in NYC & My Commitment to Them:

🔹 Public Sector & City Workers

  • DC 37 & Local 1549 (City Employees) – Strengthen contracts, ensure fair pay, and stop budget cuts that threaten jobs.
  • UFT (Teachers & School Staff) – Fully fund public education, improve working conditions, and reduce class sizes.
  • PBA, SBA, LBA, CCA, & DEA (Police Unions) – Improve accountability while ensuring fair contracts and better working conditions.
  • UFOA & UFA (Firefighters & EMS) – Increase resources, mental health support, and hazard pay for first responders.
  • COBA (Correction Officers) – Ensure safer conditions, better staffing, and reform policies to protect officers and detainees.
  • TWU Local 100 (Transit Workers) – Protect MTA jobs, stop service cuts, and secure stronger pensions and benefits.
  • Sanitation Workers (Local 831) – Improve safety measures, extend contracts, and guarantee job security.

🔹 Private Sector & Trade Unions

  • 32BJ SEIU (Building Service Workers) – Fight for stronger wages, benefits, and protections against unfair layoffs.
  • 1199 SEIU (Healthcare Workers) – Demand better pay, staffing protections, and healthcare for those who provide it.
  • IBEW Local 3 (Electrical Workers) – Support union labor in all city contracts and expand apprenticeship programs.
  • Teamsters Local 237 & Local 814 – Protect fair contracts and stop union-busting efforts.
  • Hotel Trades Council (HTC) – Strengthen workplace protections for hospitality workers.
  • RWDSU (Retail Workers) – Push for fair wages, better scheduling, and anti-retaliation protections.
  • Construction & Trade Unions (Carpenters, Plumbers, Steamfitters, etc.) – Ensure all major city projects use union labor with fair wages and safe conditions.

My Plan to Support NYC’s Unions:

Protect Union Jobs – End privatization schemes and outsourcing that threaten good-paying union jobs.
Stronger Contracts & Fair Pay – Ensure all public sector unions get fair contracts without stalling or political games.
Expand Apprenticeship & Training Programs – Partner with unions to provide more pathways into skilled trades and good jobs.
Fight Union-Busting & Retaliation – Crack down on employers who attack unions and workers organizing for better conditions.
Strengthen Worker Protections – Expand just cause laws and create stronger whistleblower protections for all workers.
Improve Pensions & Benefits – Secure long-term funding to protect the retirement and healthcare benefits union workers have earned.

NYC’s Workforce Deserves a Mayor Who Fights for Them

Unions built this city, and they deserve leadership that respects and protects them. Under my administration, NYC will be a city that stands with workers—not against them.
